Leanne Austin Artist

I was born in Adelaide South Australia. From an early age I have always loved to draw and paint. Letters would arrive from my great Uncle in Sweden, which were all beautifully illustrated by him and this was very inspiring to me.

Growing up I received great encouragement from my parents and my sister Marlene, who when I was 12, suggested I enter an RAA road safety poster competition.
After winning the first prize of a large box of oil paints, I was then able to set to work painting in a special art room that my mother had constructed for me.

At 15 a family friend named Ken & his wife Avona offered support and financial assistance in developing my art, and thanks to them, this meant that I was able to attend various worthwhile art classes. Later in my life I majored in ceramics and studied design, drawing and textiles as part of my tertiary art qualification.

One of my highlights as an artist has been to introduce art to primary aged children. The purpose of these weekend art classes was to give students an opportunity to experience a wide variety of mediums and art materials first hand.

I am currently employed in art for therapy and am really enjoying sharing my passion for art and helping others to delve into all the wonders that art has to offer.

My paintings can be seen here in Australia and Internationally. My aim is to give the viewer a real sense of being there and an understanding of my own personal experiences with the natural world. I strive to not only perhaps capture a likeness but to envelop the true spirit of a scene.
